Why Try to Make Others Miserable?

Read the Bible in a year by reading First Samuel 1-3 today.
Elkanah had two wives. One (Peninnah) had children, but the other (Hannah) was not able to have children. However, Elkanah would give a double portion to Hannah at the time of the offering. And so, “And [Peninnah] also provoked [Hannah] severely, to make her miserable, because the LORD had closed her womb” (1Samuel 1:6). Why did Peninnah feel the need to provoke Hannah? Some people are just like that. They get fulfillment out of making others miserable. These people believe it is the right thing to do, that their provocation makes things
better. What do you do about such people? Do what Hannah did. She turned the matter over to the Lord.
