Good-Looking Is Not Bad

Read the Bible in a year by reading First Samuel 15 and 16 today.
God sent Samuel to the house of Jesse and from among his sons, God would instruct Samuel to anoint a new king for Israel. When Jesse set his first-born son before Samuel, he was very impressed with the looks of the son of Jesse, but God spoke to Samuel, telling him that God does not look on the outward appearance, but rather at the heart.
Does that mean that God is turned off by good looks and that He wants someone who is ugly? Does being ugly mean someone is more spiritual, but someone good-looking is less spiritual? No, because when Jesse put David before Samuel, here is what the Bible says, “So he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, with bright eyes, and good-looking. And the LORD said, ‘Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!'” (1Samuel 16:12). David’s outward appearance was appealing, but his inward nature was more appealing to God. Looks have nothing to do with what we are on the inside, but often we assume that the good-looking people of the
world must be worldly, and we must not make that assumption.
Today, look beyond everyone’s outward nature and see the heart.
