“Therefore, I intend to remind you constantly of these things even though you know them and are well established in the truth that you now have” (2 Peter 1:12 NET).
I’m a forgetful person. And my mind stays focused like a jumping bean.
Even when I know and remember, I still need a reminder of some things. Not only to do, but to carry through.
That’s why I seek you out, as a fellow traveler on the interworld highway of faith, to lock arms with me as we avoid distractions and walk straight toward the goal.
That’s why I dip regularly into the Word, to brush up on the broad strokes and study closely the beauty of God’s will in detail.
That’s why I bend my knees and discover more reasons to give thanks, more needs to ask the Lord’s power, more opportunities to serve with joy and mercy, more moments to speak a good word for my Lord Jesus.
That’s why I pause every Lord’s day to eat with his family around his table and rearrange my priorities around a bloodied stake.
That’s why I focus my sight more and more on Jesus to become more like God, to complete the Father’s work, to learn simplicity and courage and love, to work while it’s day in the waning light of a setting sun.
How quickly I forget! Knowing this, my Lord surrounds me with spiritual post-em notes. And I don’t want to let a single one pass me by.
I need constant reminders of the precious truths of the gospel.
