God Could Have Chosen Any Nation

Read the Bible in a year chronologically by reading Exodus 19-21 today.
God wanted Moses to say something special to Israel. He said, “Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine” (Exodus 19:5). Those last several words are interesting. Truly, the whole earth is the Lord’s, including all the lands and peoples. Why then did He choose Israel? It was primarily because of Abraham, because he walked with God and God choose Abraham from whom to build a nation. Then again, why did He choose Abraham? There were other righteous people on the earth in those days. Think of Melchizedek. The
Book of Hebrews even argues that he was greater than Abraham. Plus, Melchizedek was already king of Salem, which was Jerusalem’s first name.
Everything was already in place if God had chosen Melchizedek. However, God has a special purpose for every person. He had a purpose for Melchizedek and He had a purpose for Abraham. Each man did well to fulfill that purpose.
God also had a purpose for ancient Israel. If they fulfilled that purpose, He assured them that they would be a special treasure to Him.
He continues to operate on the same principle. Follow the Lord as the passion of your life, and you shall be a special treasure to Him.
