We Sound the Alarm!

Read the Bible in a year by reading the Book of Joel today.
There were many “mini” days of the Lord in Old Testament times, although to the ones enduring them, they did not seem “mini.” God would speak through a prophet of a day of the Lord that was coming upon a nation. It was a day of judgment for that nation’s sins, from which they refused to repent. He would send a great catastrophe upon that nation, sometimes obliterating that nation and at other times coming close to it. That was obviously bad news for that nation, but it was good news for their enemies.
One such day was spoken of in Joel 2. The prophecy began like this,
Blow the trumpet in Zion,
And sound an alarm in My holy mountain!
Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble;
For the day of the LORD is coming,
For it is at hand…
(Joel 2:1).
All these “mini” days of the Lord are shadows of the one Great Day of the Lord that is yet to come. That Day will not be upon one nation, or even many nations, but it will be upon all nations and upon all people. That is bad news for the world, but it is good news for the church, because God will at last take vengeance on our enemies, but the Lord Jesus will return and take His church to be with Him forever.
The alarm is sounding in the New Testament. He warns us of the day. Be prepared for it by living a faithful and loyal life for the Lord your God.
