Another Reason Why You Should Have Obeyed

Read the Bible in a year by reading First Peter 1 today.
You became a Christian because you wanted salvation. Is that not correct? Yet, God has more in mind for you when you first obeyed the truth. He had Peter write to us,
Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart (1Peter 1:22).
Yes, you saw the need for purifying your soul, for no one might enter the presence of God in heaven without a purified soul. Those with impure souls are reserved for another eternal place. Did you read Peter’s words carefully? Our obedience to the truth was through the Spirit. Now picture that action. See yourself traveling and you pass through the Spirit because you are on a journey and simply being in the Spirit is not the end of the journey. What is the destination? The place at which the Spirit wants us to arrive is sincere love of the brethren.
Therefore, Peter brought up purity again and commanded us to love one another fervently with a pure heart.
1. Love one another. There is nothing more important to God than for His children to love another. Are you fulfilling that wish of our Father’s?
2. He does not want a mediocre love, but it must be fervent. Love, if it is biblical love, grows more and more, looking for ways to display that love. It is like the sun when it rises in its full glory, looking for every nook and cranny on the earth to shine its light.
3. Let this love be with a pure heart. God knows, and our brethren may eventually know, if it is insincere. God knows, and our brethren may eventually know, if there are ulterior motives.
Let us obey our Father in heaven.
