They Shall Seek the Way

Read the Bible in a year by reading Jeremiah 50 today.
After the fall of Babylon, the Lord prophesied that Israel would finally seek Him. He predicted that they would have continual weeping according to Jeremiah 50:4. In verse 5, Jeremiah quoted the Lord as saying about Israel,
“They shall ask the way to Zion,
With their faces toward it, saying,
‘Come and let us join ourselves to the LORD
In a perpetual covenant
That will not be forgotten.'”
(Jeremiah 50:5).
It is great that the Jews would finally turn to the Lord, but it took horrendous suffering on their part before they finally turned their faces back to Him. The thing is it did not have to be that way. Long before the suffering, God had said that it would come. He sent prophets who told them exactly what they needed to do to avoid the attack of the Babylonians and the subsequent captivity. However, they did not listen.
God still operates the same way. He wants us to turn to Him fully right now. Why do we have to suffer horribly before we turn our hearts back to Him?
