Why Give?

Because Christ gave. Paul said in 2 Corinthians 8:9, “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.” Jesus left heaven to become a man and die, so that we might become heirs of God and live in heaven eternally. We thank God for his surpassing gift in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Because every good thing comes from God. James said in James 1:17, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” All that we have, all that we will ever have has come from the hand of God, because of his love for us.
Because God made you to imitate the Lord. Just as Jesus gave of himself, those who wear his name must also give of themselves. Paul reminded Titus that we were redeemed “to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works” (Titus 2:14). We were created in Christ Jesus for good works (Ephesians 2:8-10). By giving of ourselves we become the person God intended us to be.
