Taking Care of Each Other

by Don Lee
After Captain Hook comes to an unusual demise, Peter Pan chooses a replacement to be leader of the lost boys, at least, according to the movie “Hook.” One of the smaller boys asks, “What about me?” Peter Pan replies, “Take care of everything smaller than you.”
Now someone like me would have his hands full taking care of everything or everyone smaller than me.
In John 21:15-17 Peter was asked by Jesus three times, “Do you love me?” Peter replied three times, “Yes.” But notice Jesus’ response each time: (1) “Tend my lambs.” (2) “Shepherd my sheep.” (3) “Tend my sheep.”
The early church must have taken this to heart, seeing how Christians took good care of each other.
In Acts 6:1-7 the apostles appointed “seven men of good reputation, full of the Spirit and of wisdom” to take care of the widows.
In 2 Corinthians 8:1-5, the churches of Macedonia gave “beyond their ability” for the work of the Lord. What was the key there? Verse 5: “they first gave themselves to the Lord.”
Who are you taking care of?
